5/13/2023 0 Comments Elric of melnibone![]() ![]() Let´s put it like this, i will never touch another book from that author ever again. i have a hard time expressing with words how bad i found the 4-5 novels i read in that series. ![]() Like every female character he meets he ends up banging. I have no clue when he wrote what he did but it aged really badly. I just don´t like his writing tbh, it´s one of the first fantasy settings that utterly failed to capture my imagination. (Gods of Chaos, alignments, planar travels and edgy evil Elves) So i kind of respect Moorcock for that even though he's pretentious at times, just check his 'old 'Epic Pooh'' essay on Tolkien's work. Moorcock's idea was making an antithesis/middle finger to Conan the Barbarian and LOTR with his eternal champion stories.Īt least we wouldn't have Warhammer or D&D without that stuff. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of BritanniaĮlric was sooo edgy that i simply could not finish his book series.848 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai. ![]()

5/12/2023 0 Comments Sweet tea and sympathy series![]() ![]() ![]() Molly Harper, the author is described as writing “Snarky Romance with Bite” on her own website, and that is exactly what this series is all about. This is definitely one of those unsuspecting books that you will pick up, and fall in love with. The story takes you on twists and turns very quickly, and while I was initially unsure of the story, I swiftly became enthralled with Margot’s life and what was to happen next. ![]() It’s here she learns of her families roots and meets the towns most eligible bachelor, Kyle Archer. When Margot’s life is turned upside down when she unexpectedly loses her luxurious job, and heads to Lake Sackett, Georgia where she is offered a position within her father’s side of the family’s Funeral Home and Bait Shop. The series (which I didn’t even realize was a series) is a contemporary romance meets Southern Charm and Summer House (for my reality TV loving readers). The book starts off right away and instantly takes you into the life of Margot Cary, a big time event planner living in the heart and soul of Chicago. I have listened to 7 of Amanda’s books on Audible Canada prior, and wanted to switch up my series before I went onto the 8 th (Harley Merlin by Bella Forrest). I was pleasantly surprised to find Molly Harper’s “Sweet Tea and Sympathy” on Audible Canada, as I was looking through books that my favourite narrator, Amanda Ronconi had available. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments Hunchback de notre dame![]() ![]() ![]() The novel's original French title, Notre-Dame de Paris, is a metaphor: it refers to Notre Dame Cathedral, on which the story is centered, and Esmeralda, the novel's main character who is "our lady of Paris" and the center of the human drama within the story. Rizzio is “a radical new take on one of the darkest episodes in Scottish history”: the bloody assassination of David Rizzio, the private secretary to Mary, Queen of Scots, in her chambers in Holyrood Palace in March 1566. He says: “These books are sharp, provocative and darkly comic, mining that seam of sedition and psychological drama that has always featured in the best of Scottish literature.” James Crawford, editor-at-large at Polygon, commissioned the series. The series aims to reclaim history for a modern audience and Polygon says that “while each book has a unique voice and distinctive individual identity, the Darkland Tales are united by their punky, anarchic and deliberately in-your-face aesthetic”. ![]() The first Darkland Tales title will be Rizzio by award-winning novelist Denise Mina pictured right, with volumes to follow by Jenni Fagan and Alan Warner in 2022. Then again, one thing we could be certain of, is that King would be absolutely, completely and utterly compelling, and we weren’t disappointed. We knew, as one always knows when going into a Stephen King novel, that we wouldn’t be in for a comfortable ride, and that we might have to go round and about to get to where we are going especially with Needful Things being one of King’s earlier works. Our readings together have spanned some pretty amazing authors, however, looking for that specific “keep going or else!” quality, of course we thought of the name Stephen King. After receiving some very grim news, my lady and I knew we’d need something distracting, something truly engrossing and unputdownable which we could lose ourselves in. ![]() ![]() A gap had opened up, a void that begged to be filled. One in which women were not confined to simply following the army, and perhaps helping to tend the wounded at the battle’s end, or nurse the fever cases, but in which there was a well-established tradition of women soldiers or, at least, of women who thought little of being in the centre of the action. Suddenly, as often happens when we research for historical fiction, I found myself in a very different world. So I began to read everything available on Frenchwomen and their relationship to the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte. And I also couldn’t remember reading anything about the French women who might have been present at Waterloo. It occurred to me that we don’t have too many English-language novels that look at the Hundred Days from a French perspective. ![]()
